Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo has graduated from Canterbury University, New Zealand, with a B.A. and M.A. in Economics. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching from Christchurch Teacher's College, New Zealand and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Studies from Harvard institute of Development Studies, USA. He holds PhD (Honorary) degree in Commerce from Lincoln University New Zealand.

Throughout his career, he has been bestowed numerous awards, including the Bintang Kenyalang and the Panglima Setia Mahkota which carry the titles of Datuk Amar and Tan Sri respectively.

He served in both the private and public sectors. He served as the Chairman and Managing Director of several companies, statutory bodies and Non-Governmental Organizations. Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo’s working experience includes, but is not limited to, serving as the Administration manager, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, the first General Manager of the Land Custody and Development Authority (Sarawak), the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Resource Planning (Sarawak), the State Secretary of Sarawak. He has sat on the boards of various companies (in some cases, up to the present day) including Sapura Resources Berhad, Sime Darby Berhad Group, Tractors Malaysia Berhad, X-Fab Silicon Foundries S.E., Investment Research Group Ltd, SapuraKencana.

He was also a member of the Audit Committee, Remuneration Committee and Nomination Committee of SapuraCrest Petroleum.

Amongst many other achievements, he is an active participant of charitable activities. He is the Chairman of Yayasan Kemajuan Insan Sarawak and a council member of the Institute of Integrity Malaysia. Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo was also the Founding Chairman of the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, as well as a member of the National Water Services Commission and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Advisory Committee.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo joined Challenge Group as a Company Advisor in March 2017.
